6th-gen Renault Espace bows in Europe

The sixth generation sees the Renault Espace turn from a minivan into a crossover SUV. Here are the main specs and details.
Coming in at 4,720 mm (184.4 in) long, 1,590 mm (62.1 in) wide and 1,645 mm (64.3 in) tall with 2,740 mm (107 in) between the axles, the newcomer is 140 mm (5.5 in) shorter than its predecessor, but still 210 mm (8.2 in) longer than the Austral model sharing the same platform and tech. It weighs 215 kg (474 pounds) less than the previous generation and offers more interior space thanks to an optimized layout.
Inside, the steering wheel, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster and the 12-inch vertical infotainment display are all the same as in the Austral. The top trim level adds a 9.3-inch HUD and a surround-view camera system.
The new Espace can be a five- or a seven-seater. The latter version lets you move the bench forward or backwards by up to 220 mm (8.6 inches).
The power is sourced from a hybrid system based on a 1.2-liter turbo engine with 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. An electric motor contributes another 70 PS (69 hp / 51 kW) and a starter-generator adds 25 PS (25 hp / 18 kW). The combined output does not exceed 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW). Going from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 8.8 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 175 km/h (108.7 mph).
Renault says the production will take place at its factory in Spain, with the pre-order books opening later this spring.
