Chevy Bolt owners stuck in a 4-year queue for batteries that don’t burn down cars
Even though General Motors reported a major success in replacing faulty batteries in recalled Chevrolet Bolt EVs – around 140,000 vehicles in total – some owners will apparently have to wait much longer than others to get their issue resolved.
According to InsideEVs, a woman named Patricia Atkinson, from Alaska, received an uninspiring letter from her nearest Chevy dealership telling her she would need to wait four years for the battery replacement.
It is worth pointing out that Patricia lives on Sitka, an island with no road connection with the mainland. Anyone willing to bring a car to or from the island is stranded with a 12-hour ferry ride and no other options. Moreover, since there is no Chevrolet dealership on the island proper, the replacement will have to be done in Juno. The local dealership told Atkinson that, with all the logistic limitations in place, she had better brace up for around four years of waiting, since the company can carry out eight replacements per month at most.
The owner of the car then contacted a dealership in Seattle where she purchased in in March 2021, hoping for a better response. Unfortunately, it turned out that spot also had a waiting queue several years long.
In the end, Atkinson is doubtful as to whether she will ever be able to replace the faulty pack – even though she realizes that continuing to use it may have the worst consequences.
