Watch a Subaru wagon with $14k in tuning parts outrace a Lamborghini

It is a dream of every self-respecting tuner to build a car capable of showing supercars the taillights while staying well below their price point. The guys over at Driven Media decided to have a go at it themselves – and achieved downright spectacular results.
The starting point was a mundane-looking Subaru Impreza WRX, which they intended to tune so that it would outrace the Lamborghini Murcielago on a closed circuit. The gorgeous Italian classic packs 6.5-liters of displacement, 12 cylinders and 670 PS (661 hp / 493 kW) in its top spec called SV.
For the race, the Japanese wagon was upgraded with new coilovers, grippier tires and a power boost to 308 PS (304 hp / 227 kW). Most importantly, it was stripped of everything not needed for the track, including the passenger seats, some of the trim trim and the noise proofing.
One of the main objectives was to squeeze the modifications within a $20,000 USD budget, but when Driven Media was finished, they still had around $6,000 remaining that they didn’t know what to do with. So they decided to proceed with the race and then continue their work as necessary – only to outrace the Lambo by 2.7 seconds at their very first attempt. Watch the video!
