Consumer Reports puts names on the most (un-)reliable cars of 2021

Consumer Reports has published the results of its latest survey of U.S. car owners, putting together lists of the 10 best and the 10 worst cars in terms of reliability. The top-10 ranking has eight Japanese entries, by the way.
The Lexus GX (watch the video for a closer look of the car) won the top prize for customer satisfaction. The approach is rather straightforward: the authors of the study poll car owners about their experiences and the difficulties they encountered using their cars. The issues are divided into 17 sections including engine, drivetrain, body, wiring, braking, and cabin. The result is a rating on a 100-point scale assigned to every car make and model.
Lexus won this year’s competition by rising two lines in the list and dethroning Mazda, which went down to the second position. Toyota moved to the third line and landed next to Infiniti and Buick, the latter turning out to be North America’s most reliable non-Asian car marque.
Occupying places 6 to 10 are Honda, Subaru, Acura, Nissan and Mini, in that order. Despite its tailing position, Mini is the best European brand on the list. For South Korea, Hyundai scored higher than the competition but not high enough to get into the top 10.
Diving to the very bottom of the list reveals a trio of losers named Jeep, Tesla and Lincoln. Ram is little better off coming 21st with a 12-line plunge from last year. Issues with the 1500 Classic may have been the main contributing factor.
In terms of specific models, the Lexus GX dominates the ranking with 100 points out of 100. Kia Niro EV and Toyota Prius are the closest runners-up. The top-10 list only has the Cadillac XT5 to show for cars made in America, and not a single European model. On the other hand, there are three European models in the worst 10 list: the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Volvo XC90, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
