Ford Mondeo drops its last gas version heading into 2021
The Ford Mondeo is dated enough to warrant a replacement, but in the meantime, the manufacturer continues to reshape the lineup to fit the market. For now, this means ditching the gasoline engine heading into next year.
Customers will soon have to choose between diesel and hybrid powertrains only. The Mondeo Hybrid comes powered by a 2.0-liter gas engine, an electric motor, a starter/generator and a tiny 1.4-kWh battery. The resulting output is 187 hp (139 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque.
As for the diesel range, it is represented by three variants of the same diesel offering 120, 150 and 190 horsepower (90, 112 and 142 kilowatts, respectively). The torque for the trio amounts to 340, 370 and 400 Nm (251, 273 and 295 pound-feet). Transmission choices include six-speed manual and automatic, and you can pay extra to get AWD instead of FWD.
