Hyundai Elantra racer breaks cover, is due out before 2021
Hyundai has demonstrated a track-only version of its Elantra sedan at the ongoing Auto China show. The racer is slated to reach customer teams later this year.
Powering the Hyundai Elantra N TCR is a two-liter, four-cylinder turbo mated to a six-speed transmission with paddle shifters. The drive is on the front axle.
The company reported that it had been testing the model since June 2020, covering around 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) on racetracks throughout Europe alone. The testing will continue for some time, but shipments should begin before the end of the year.
Hyundai is simultaneously working on a performance-packed Elantra N suited for daily driving on roads. Rumor has it that the N version will get 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts) instead of the standard 201 hp (150 kW).
