Meet Volkswagen Golf Variant, a wagon due out in Q4 2020
With the eighth-gen Volkswagen Golf debuting last fall, many of us were looking forward to its estate/wagon version coming out – and it is finally here, called Variant and sporting an off-road-capable Alltrack version.
The family hauler comes with a selection of gasoline engines assisted by electric motors, drive belts and compact traction batteries. The transmission is seven-speed DCT. All diesel options boast a few selective nitrous oxide neutralizers and dual AdBlue solution injectors.
On its domestic market of Europe, the Golf Variant will exist in four trims – Standard, Life, Style and R-Line. The first one includes LED headlights, ab 8.25-inch infotainment display, air conditioning, comfortable seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Like its hatchback sibling, the wagon packs such paid options as digital dashboard, multimedia with online services, LED Matric headlights, driving assist capable of automatic acceleration and braking, HUD, and other electronic aids.
Some of the options are instantly unlockable “over-the-air” – you may buy adaptive cruise control, wireless connectivity or voice control this way, to name a few.
The Alltrack version has all-wheel drive in all specs, as well as higher road clearance, a special interior trim and an off-road-themed styling kit with redesigned bumpers.
Sales in Europe begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, with the other markets scheduled to follow later.
