After premiering the Mercedes E-Class sedan and wagon, the German car marque introduced their performance-oriented counterparts: the AMG E 63 and E 63 S.

Like the rest of the range, the new AMGs only sport minimal changes front and rear. The manufacturer claims that the amount of rising force affecting the front axle has been reduced. The wheel arches gained 27 millimeters (1.05 inches) of width, and a dividing strip appeared between the brake lights (available in chrome, black and carbon finishes).

Exhaust tips are black by default, but E 63 S buyers may opt for Matte Titanium look. New discs measure 19 inches across on the E 63 and 20 inches on the S version, and benefit from a special aerodynamic design. The optional AMG Night package swaps out all the chrome details with glossy black ones.

The MBUX infotainment system comes with 10.25” and 12.3” screen sizes to choose from and sports a distinct graphical style that sets it apart from the non-AMG versions. An option has been added to display telemetric data.

The E-Class AMG range still relies on its usual 4.0-liter V8 TT engine, which yields 571 PS (563 hp, 420 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) in the E 63 spec and 612 PS (604 hp, 450 kW) along with 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) in the E 63 S guise. The sedan is still ahead in terms of acceleration, hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 3.5 seconds. The wagon takes 0.1s longer than that, and the S spec manages the same in 3.4 s. The top speed is capped at 250 km/h (155 mph) for the baseline E-Class AMG. The range-topping sedan maxes out at 300 km/h (186 mph) and the wagon at 290 km/h (180 mph).

The AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed auto transmission continues to use its wet multi-plate clutch mechanism instead of a hydraulic torque converter. The 4Matic+ AWD with its electronic differential gear is now available in all trim levels and comes with the Drift Mode, which redirects the torque to the rear axle. The adaptive suspension has been further tweaked for comfort, Mercedes claims.

Pricing and availability dates remain unannounced.
