E.C.D. rolls out the LR Defender 90 Project Family Vacation
Single-make car restorer E.C.D. Automotive Design has unveiled another of its great restomods, the Project Family Vacation. Based off a Defender 90, the SUV boasts a new body kit, an interior makeover, and a modern V8.
The exterior hasn’t changed as drastically this time around. A spare wheel now resides on the hood, additional lights adorn both bumpers and the roof, and the new winch at the front end can withstand up to 12,000 lbs (5.5 metric tons) of load. The stainless-steel eight-spoke wheels finished in black are likewise not stock.
The cabin is where the luxury shows: top-quality diamond-stitched leather covers the seats, and there are plenty of modern features for the driver and passengers to enjoy, including an infotainment system with a high-end speaker set and navigation software.
As per the tradition, E.C.D. swaps the standard engine out for the LS3 V8 mill of the Chevy Corvette, partnering it with a five-speed manual gearbox. No numbers are provided, but the new powertrain should be more than adequate for the old SUV.
The only thing that leaves us a bit doubtful about the project is its name. “Family vacation”, really? This Def 90 only has four seats! Well, perhaps whoever ordered the conversion has a small family. It’s either that, or a clever plan is in the works to leave the mother-in-law home…
