Next-gen Audi RS7 Sportback celebrates Frankfurt premiere
The new generation of the Audi RS7 Sportback has made an official appearance at the ongoing IAA Frankfurt show. Let us have a closer look at it, shall we?
The liftback series now comes powered by a hybrid drivetrain centered on a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 rated at 600 hp (447 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. A 48V starter-generator add-on assists the engine, reportedly saving up to 0.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers traveled. The standard sprint lasts 3.6 seconds, and the top speed comes electronically capped at 250 km/h (155 mph), but you may choose to pay extra to push the limiter up to 280 km/h (174 mph) or even 305 km/h (189.5 mph). The transmission is eight-speed automatic, with launch control and optimized switch timings.
Even in its most basic form, the 2020 RS7 Sportback packs a digital dashboard, a multimedia system with various selectable display modes, 21-inch wheels, a drive mode selector with 6 presets (4 fixed + 2 customizable), and adaptive air suspension. Paid extras include Valcona leather trim embroidered with a hexagonal pattern and a number of other custom trim schemes.
The new Audi RS7 Sportback is Audi’s first liftback model with fender flares and a wide body kit. Is is 40mm (1.6 inches) wider than the regular A7 and generally reminds us more of the RS6 Avant, especially in the bezel-less front grille department. It even has a retractable rear wing that pops up whenever you hit 100 km/h (62 mph).
Sales in Europe should begin before the end of 2019.
