New 2020 Ford Explorer ST gets a boost barely after the launch
The 2020 Ford Explorer ST has only just begun shipping, but it seems performance tinkerers never sleep. Watch the video by 5 Star Tuning to see the SUV’s 3.0 V6 engine boosted to 412 bhp (307 kW).
This is 102 bhp (76 kW) more than the vanilla Explorer ST has when measured at the rear axle on the dyno. To achieve this, the team had to meddle with the ECU and pour E50 into the fuel tank instead of the ON 93 gasoline. The E50 denotes a roughly 50/50 mixture of ON 93 gas and ethanol.
Since the octane number of the mix is pretty high, modifying the fuel system accordingly is generally recommended. In this particular case, though, 5 Star Tuning says the stock fuel pump performs flawlessly.
As you can see from the video, the 2019 Ford Expedition can be subjected to the same kind of tuning. Put on the dyno, it delivers 464 bhp (346 kW) and 551 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels.
