A LEGO VW T2 debuts at the Munich travel fair
A life-size replica of the Volkswagen T2 van made up of LEGO bricks has made an appearance at the ongoing 2019 Travel and Leisure Fair in Munich, Germany. It took six weeks for certified LEGO model builders René Hoffmeister and Pascal Lenhard to assemble the toy brick car, and it ended up weighing around 700 kilograms (1,550 lb).
The replica is full 5 meters (16.4 ft.) long, 2 m (6.5 ft.) tall and 1.9 m (6.25 ft.) wide. It consists of around 400,000 parts that recreate the original van in astonishing detail. It even sports a roof that actually lifts, a door that slides to the side and the entire interior, including the kitchenette. 20,000 parts alone imitate the windows.
With their latest creation, René and Pascal have succeeded in beating the record previously set by the Chevrolet professional team. Back then, 18 people spent 2,000 hours assembling a Chevy Silverado out of 334,544 LEGO parts.
